Doune Castle (as Featured in Outlander Tv Series) Stately Homes in Doune, Stirlingshire, Scotland

Doune Castle was built in the 13th century near Stirling, and has featured prominently in several film and TV projects. Most notably until recently, the Monty Python film ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail’ was filmed in Scotland with Doune Castle making a very notable appearance, including a very rude French man atop its battlements. However new notoriety has been brought to this historic monument by its inclusion as a representation of the fictional Castle Leoch in Outlander. In the series, it play host to a number of exciting scenes and is home to the McCulloch Clan during the episodes set in the 18th Century. Nowadays, you can take tours of the historic grounds, inside and outside the castle, and there are some lovely walks which begin at the foot of its monolithic structure. 

After or before, you can picnic in the grounds by the river which is also safe for swimming on hot days.
