The regions which make up the west coast are Pays de la Loire in the north, Poiteau Charentes in the centre and Aquitaine in the south. These are all splendid regions in their own right, and come together to make the west coast a very popular tourist destination.
Poitou Charentes is a very historic region, with the cities of La Rochelle and Poitiers competing for the biggest and most important settlements in the region. There are many historic monuments and sites to visit, and guided tours are usually available. Pays de la Loire is one of the most beautiful regions in France, and has long been the summer home of French and foreign Royals. Aquitaine has an excellent climate and has an abundance of beaches and many superb vineyards. The area has always been famous for wine, and many of its varieties are heavily exported to Britain.
