Rhone Alpes is one of the most affluent regions of France, famous for its Alpine Ski areas. The region which covers Lake Geneva to the Cevennes and Provence, offers far more than just the French Alps. From the Lake Geneva to the deepest gorge in Europe through which passes the Ardeche River, there is a massive diversity of landscapes in this area. The region is centred round France's second city, Lyon. The historic city is filled with tourist attractions, museums, galleries, beautiful parks and gardens.
Ski resorts in the Rhone Alps
Rhône-Alpes boasts the world's largest ski area which includes the 3 Valleys and Portes du Sol. The region is home to Chamonix, the original French winter-sports resort. It is the point of departure for hiking in and around Mont Blanc, Europe's highest peak. Other resorts include Courchevel, Megève and Val d’Isère.

Lyon
Lyon is well known the world over for its splendid history and architecture, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in its own right. The rivers Rhône and Saône converge to the south of the city forming a fertile peninsula which has made Lyon a great stronghold for centuries. There is deep cultural diversity, with immigrants mostly from Italy, North Africa and Portugal making it one of the more historically diverse cities in France. This diversity has lead to a varied and diverse cultural heritage and this is reflected in the vibrant design of many of the buildings. Lyon is a great tourist destination for those interested in both exploring the city, and those looking for a base from which to tour the region.
