West Close Farmhouse Leyburn Yorkshire Dales Large group Family friendly Pet/Dog Friendly Holiday Cottage in Leyburn, North Yorkshire, England

Nestling on the eastern edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, West Close Farmhouse Cottages in Melmerby village near Leyburn boast beautiful views across Coverdale and out to the Moors.  The two bedroom, pet-friendly cottages are ideally placed for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. 

Located within the grounds of West Close Farmhouse, the two self-catering cottages each sleep 4 (plus cot) and take a upto 2 dogs per cottage.  They are both single-storey, split-level barn conversions made from local stone, with beamed interiors and uninterrupted views across the Dale, but each has its own distinctive layout and feel.  The cottages only contain a few steps within each one, so are ideally suited to elderly people or those with mobility difficulties. Each cottage has 2 bedrooms, a conservatory to take full advantage of the views, a wood burning stove, secure parking and storage for bikes, as well as a patio area with access to a barbecue.  Wifi internet connection, electricity and heating are included and there is access to a communal washing machine. The cottages benefit from an environmentally-friendly biomass heating system, providing heating and hot water on demand, at no extra charge.  The cottages have access to a large communal garden and there is a field where dogs can be exercised when there is no stock being grazed there.

Attractions within easy driving distance include Masham, with its market square and breweries, the Wensleydale Railway, the beautiful city of Ripon, the Dales market towns of Leyburn and Hawes, Middleham, with its castle and racing stables, the Forbidden Corner in Coverdale, as well as National Trust properties of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal.  Also within easy reach are the historic cities of York and Durham, the picturesque Lake District and the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park. 

If you do not wish to use your car, there are numerous walks from the door taking you through Coverdale or into Wensleydale or Waldendale.  The village of Melmerby is situated on the Dales Cycle Way and is an ideal position from which to base your cycling tour of the Dales or to experience the Tour de France route.  There is a community pub within walking distance, in the neighbouring village of Carlton.
