Welcome to our great Highland holiday cottage on the Isle of Skye

The Old School House is an excellent and much loved holiday cottage. A traditional former school house with its original large school room now a wonderful games room with table tennis, darts and space! The cottage provides self catering holiday accommodation for up to 6 people and pets and dogs are welcome. The centrally situated holiday cottage is ideal for climbing and walking and for exploring the rest of Skye. There is a fantastic waterfall next to the cottage with a 'swimming pool' for the brave!

Our Highland Holiday Cottage Facilities

The holiday cottage retains its traditional character but is continually being updated and improved. Modern double glazing throughout ensures comfort even in the depths of winter. The kitchen/sitting room has a  wood burning stove in addition to a storage radiator and electric heaters whilst comfortable sofas and chairs provide a cosy place for passing those wet or midgy Skye evenings! There is a good selection of books, as well as cards, jigsaw puzzles and games. There is no television as the reception is poor but the cottage has broadband and wifi. The well equipped kitchen provides everything that you need to cater for 6 people, except of course food and drink! There are full sets of crockery, glasses and cutlery, and a wide selection of pans and utensils. We provide tea towels and oven gloves.

There are two bedrooms downstairs. (One with a double and a single bed leads through to a twin room.) The 3rd bedroom with 2 single beds is up some steep and narrow stairs. Please note that linen is provided but towels are an extra. A cot and high chair can be provided on request.

There is a downstairs bathroom with bath, shower, hand basin and toilet. Through a separate entrance there is a shower room, with electric shower, hand-basin and toilet. There is an automatic washer/dryer. Bath mats are provided.

There is a large drying room with electric heater and clothes pulley rack.

As a wonderful and unusual bonus there is the former large School Room, now a Games Room with table tennis, darts, table skittles and other games. Also old sofas, chairs and a small open fire.

All rooms have electric heaters with controllable time clocks and there is a storage radiator in the hall and one in the sitting-room. We provide wood - one sack is free- and a little kindling to start you off on arrival. The cottage has a private water supply with a UV sterilisation and filtration plant.  Hot water is provided by immersion heaters and controllable time clocks The shower in the shower-room heats its own water. There is a telephone at the cottage for incoming calls as well as broadband and wifi. Please note that mobile phone coverage can be patchy on Skye.

Pets and dogs are welcome at our Highland Cottage but we ask you to keep them off furniture and out of the bedrooms.

Our holiday cottage is located near Carbost in the Isle of Skye, in the West Highlands of Scotland. As you will see on the website, the cottage is in an excellent location near Carbost village and the Cuillin Hills. This is an excellent cottage for walkers and climbers, or as a base for  exploring the Isle of Skye by car. 

Carbost village and the Talisker distillery are about 1/3rd mile from the cottage. The Inn is open through the season serving food all day (and often has live music on Friday evenings) and there is a small village shop. Other shopping is available at Portree, about 15miles north and Broadford or Dunvegan. A big additional attraction is The Oyster Shed half-way down the hill to the village. You don't need to eat an oyster to eat there!

As well as walking and climbing there are many great things to do near the cottage, including visiting the nearby sandy beaches at Glenbrittle, Fiscavaig and Talisker. Golf is available at a 9 hole course in Sconser about 9 miles away. For swimming - the burn by the cottage has a lovely pool under the waterfall and the now famous Fairy pools are only a few miles distant but beware they have become very popular! The sea is never far away, but if you long for chlorine and warmth then Portree has a good public swimming pool. Fishing: - in season river, loch and sea fishing are available locally (please ask us for details). There are also many Boat Trips available from a number of places, including Carbost, Broadford, Portree and into Loch Coruisk from Elgol.
