Tewkesbury Abbey was founded in 1087. It was built to house Benedictine monks. The original medieval windows still exist in their original form.

Tewkesbury is the largest medieval town in Britain and the sky line is dominated by the Abbey. Two styles of architecture dominate the Abbey; the Norman piers and arches of the eight bay Nave (completed in 1121) and the decorate -style chancel, imposed on the previous work in the 14th century. The Abbey boasts the largest Norman church tower in existence measuring 14 metres square and 45 metres high. The Abbey also houses a 17th century Milton organ, reputedly the oldest in the country still in daily use. Visitors can enjoy exquisitely sculptured tombs and chantry chapels, medieval stained glass windows and some of the finest roof bosses in England.
