Home of William Wordsworth
This was William Wordsworth's home from 1799 to 1808. it is where he wrote much of his poetry, and his
sister Dorothy wrote her famous journals.
The cottage was acquired by the Wordsworth Trust in 1890 and opened to the public in 1891. The house is a Grade 1 listed building, and remains largely unchanged from Wordsworth's day.
You can take a guided tour of the cottage and view a renowned collection of portraits, manuscripts and artefacts in the Wordsworth Museum
There is also a tearoom, bookshop and gift shop on site.
For nearly 200 years before William and Dorothy Wordsworth moved in, Dove Cottage was a hostelry called the Dove and Olive. A house full of history well worth a wander!
