Welcome to our Holiday Home in Rural France

On our large, walled and fenced in lawn (about 2000 square meters) we have a gazebo, a mobile barbecue grill, two sets of garden furniture, a Royal Croquet set, two boule sets (there is a bouledrome in Peyrefitte, but our lawn is fine too), and a badminton set. There is also an inflatable baby swimming pool, toys and five bicycles. Meals are usually eaten on the vine-and-rose shaded terrace. 

Two large bedrooms upstairs: one is very spacious, having earlier been the study of the village notaire. These two and a third smaller bedroom have double beds. A fourth bedroom has two single beds and a baby cot. The sofa in the sitting room downstairs is convertible into a comfortable double bed, useful if you have guests staying over. The house is fully equipped and fitted with Wi-Fi Internet broadband connection, a washing-machine, dishwasher, iron and board, gas stove, refrigerator with freezer compartment, hair dryer, new shower cabin, bathroom with new bathtub, two WC. Rent includes all linen, electricity, gas, and water. There is a well-stocked library in the house, including many different kinds of books in English, French and Swedish. There are new double-glazed windows in the whole house, a Daikin heat pump/AC and new hi-tech insulation in the attic for comfortable temperatures all year. For heating, there is a woodburning glass-front iron stove in the living-room fireplace and several electric heaters.

Our Location

The village of Peyrefitte-du-Razès has 35 inhabitants in the winter. In the summertime many of their children and grandchildren come and visit. Our nearest neighbour is a shepherd, who takes his goats and sheep up the hills every morning. 

There are two nearby lakes with beaches where the children in our village go for fun and swimming: Lac Montbel at Léran and a smaller lake at Puivert, both set in beautiful Pyrenées scenery. Léran also has a beautiful castle in the village, and Puivert is famous for its medieval Cathar castle ruin (featured in the film The Ninth Gate).

Peyrefitte also has a small Espace d’Art, an art gallery mainly for local artists. The late French actor Philippe Noiret was a local hero supporting environmental causes. He even mentioned Peyrefitte-du-Razès in his award presentation speech at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003. Cultural activities are frequent in many of the surrounding towns and villages in the departments of Aude and Ariège, with concerts of classical and modern music. Several medieval and other festivals also take place and every village has its own local festivity. In Peyrefitte-du-Razés, the Fête du Village takes place the third weekend of August with lots of fun and games and a joint dinner-dance for everyone in the village square.

Three times a week mobile shops visit the village selling fresh bread, meat and groceries, a very important social event when the villagers gather around the van to chat. Monday morning is the charming local market in the unique medieval town of Mirepoix, which also features pony rides, a merry-go-round and other children's activities. Every Wednesday a bus leaves Mirepoix for tax free shopping in Pas de la Casa in Andorra.
