Lovely Highland coastal cottage in picturesque Portmahomack. Wonderful panoramic views from our living room and balcony over the harbour, sandy beach, sea and hills. Big skies. Fantastic location. Sunsets over the water. Great all year round.
Welcome to Bayview Cottage, our Seaside Self Catering Cottage in Scenic Portmahomack in Scotland
Bayview Cottage has a wonderful location in the beautiful seaside village of Portmahomack, 45 minutes north of Inverness. The living room and kitchen are upstairs, and lead out to a large balcony / roof terrace with fantastic panoramic views over the harbour, the beach, out to sea and over to the hills on the other side of the water. Portmahomack is ideal for those who want a relaxing holiday with lovely scenery, but it also offers golf, walking and watersports for the more energetic! Portmahomack sits in a crescent shaped bay of the Dornoch Firth, and the back garden, living room and balcony of the cottage actually face west over the bay and enjoy lots of sun and lovely sunsets over the water .

Bayview Cottage is very comfortable, equipped to a high standard.and decorated in coastal style
- Ground floor - 3 bedrooms (2 doubles , 2 twin bathroom, toilet, utility room and back door to a small sheltered back garden with views.
- Upstairs - bright living room with wood stove, and well equipped kitchen and dining area with table for 6
- Memorable views from the living room - even better if you walk on to balcony.
If you're feeling lazy, you can just sit and watch the comings and goings at the harbour, the beach, the birds, the boats, sometimes dolphins, and the occasional waterskier or windsurfer.
The view from the living room is just as you see in our home page photo. And from the spacious balcony the views are even better - a panorama of the distant mountains, the beach, the harbour, and across the Dornoch Firth to the hills of Sutherland. The balcony has an outdoor table and chairs, and from the balcony there is an external stair down to the back garden and patio area, which has a little barbecue and seating.
The cottage is bright and cheerful and is decorated with the seaside in mind. It is very comfortable at any time of year. Heating is by electric combined storage & panel heaters keeping the house warm all year round, and there is also a wood stove.
Electricity, bedding and towels are provided. Dogs are welcome by arrangement if they are well behaved.
Our Location and Things to Do
Bayview Cottage is located within the village of Portmahomack, Easter Ross, in the North of Scotland, 9 miles from Tain and 40 miles from Inverness. The cottage sits on an elevated position above the sea front, yet is only a minute's walk from the harbour and the sandy beach.
Portmahomack has a beautiful crescent shaped sandy beach in a sheltered bay, and "The Port" also has a picturesque harbour, 9 hole golf course, a pub (Castle Hotel), a well-stocked village shop, churches, village hall and tearoom, a football pitch, and childrens' playgrounds. The area is one of the most important Pictish archaeological sites in the country, well explained in the Discovery Centre in the village.
For eating out, the renowned Oyster Catcher Restaurant is a real gastronomic experience (booking essential) and there is also the Castle Hotel and the village hall cafe.
There are lots of walks in and around the village, or out to the Tarbetness lighthouse or along the coast from nearby Rockfield village.
Places to visit nearby include Anta Designs; Tain and the "Tain Through Time" museum; The Glen Morangie Distillery and Visitor Centre; the Balblair distillery at Edderton; the lovely town of Dornoch, with its Cathedral, Old Town Jail, and Museum of the Highland Clearances; Dunrobin Castle; the village of Cromarty (reachable in the summer by the small Nigg-Cromarty ferry); dolphin boats which run from the Black Isle; and Inverness. Further afield you could take a day trip to Ullapool or Lochinver on the west coast or up to the north coast or even Orkney.
For golfers, there is a well looked after 9 hole golf course in the village, with £20 daily or weekly green fees. There are also more challenging courses nearby, including Tain and Royal Dornoch.
